Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27, with Cyber Monday on November 30. The deals are real for things you were going to buy anyway. The plan below makes sure that is all you buy.

Write the list before the ads start
In early November, list what you actually need or have been waiting to buy: a laptop that is failing, a winter coat, Christmas gifts already on your list. Add a maximum price for each. Anything that is not on the list by Thanksgiving is not a Black Friday purchase — it is an impulse with a countdown timer.
Step by step
- List real needs in early November. Things you would buy this winter anyway, each with a maximum price.
- Note normal prices. Record the usual price today so you can judge a deal at a glance later.
- Set a total budget for the weekend. One number for Black Friday through Cyber Monday, including gifts.
- Unsubscribe from what tempts you. Fewer marketing emails mean fewer reasons to buy things that are not on the list.
- Buy from the list only. If an item is on the list and under its price cap, buy it. Otherwise close the tab.
- Track returns and trials. Every return window and trial end goes on a date the day you buy.

Know the normal price
A discount is only a discount relative to what the item usually costs. Note the regular price of each item on your list in early November, or use a price-history tool. Many “deals” are close to the normal price; a few are genuinely good. Your notes tell you which is which in seconds, not in a panic at midnight.
After the weekend
- Put every return deadline on a date as soon as the order confirmation arrives.
- Check bank statements a week later for duplicate or unexpected charges.
- Cancel trial subscriptions you signed up for during the sales before they renew.
