A household chore routine that runs itself
Last updated:
Chores are the definition of repeating tasks, yet most chore lists are static. Give each chore the right rhythm once, and the list tells you what is due today instead of everything at once.

Give every chore its real rhythm
Write down every chore and how often it actually needs doing: dishes daily, bins weekly on collection day, bathroom weekly, sheets every two weeks, fridge clean-out monthly, windows twice a year. Then add each one once as a repeating task with that rule. The daily list stays short because only what is due shows up.
Use “after done” for flexible chores
Some chores should repeat a fixed time after you last did them, not on a calendar. If you water the plants two days late, the next watering should be three days after that, not three days after the original date. Pladay supports this: “Water plants every 3 days after done” counts from the day you tick it off.
Share the load visibly
In shared homes, resentment usually comes from invisible work. A visible list with names and a fair rotation (alternate weeks for the bathroom, for example) helps. Pladay's Home module supports recurring chores, rotation between household members and checklists.
One deep clean, in three short sessions
Deep cleaning a whole home in one day is exhausting. Split it across three days: declutter and sort on day one, kitchen and bathroom on day two, floors, windows and recycling on day three. The deep-cleaning template lays it out.
Setting it up in Pladay
- Type chores with their rhythm in plain language: “Bins every Tuesday”, “Change sheets every 2 weeks”, “Descale kettle every month on the 1st” (repeating tasks).
- Moving into a new place? The first-apartment template ends with a weekly Saturday cleaning task.
- Track a small daily reset (ten minutes of tidying before bed) as a habit.

FAQ
What happens if I skip a recurring chore?
The task stays overdue until you complete or reschedule it; when you complete it, the next occurrence is created from the rule. With an 'after done' rule, the next date counts from the completion day.
Can the whole household use it?
Each person uses their own account, or a household shares one. The Home module can rotate chores between named members.
