Google Tasks alternative: more planning, same simplicity
Last updated:
Google Tasks is minimal by design and lives inside Gmail and Google Calendar. When a simple list is all you need, it is excellent. When you want repeats with real-life rules, habits, timers or templates, a dedicated planner helps.

When Google Tasks is the better choice
- You turn emails into tasks in Gmail and want them beside your calendar with no extra app.
- You want the simplest possible list and nothing more.
- You work inside Google Workspace, where tasks can be assigned from Docs and Chat spaces.
When Pladay may fit better
- You want to type “Pay card on the last day of every month” and have the rule set for you (quick add).
- You want templates for bigger plans: exam countdown, wedding, moving.
- You want a planner that works fully offline and without a Google account.
How to move your tasks
- Pladay does not import Google Takeout files directly. For active tasks, copying is quicker: open each list in Google Tasks and copy the titles.
- Paste them into Pladay's input; each line becomes a task, and dates written in the text are recognised.
- To keep seeing your tasks in Google Calendar, sign in and subscribe to Pladay's private calendar feed (calendar sync).
FAQ
Will my Pladay tasks appear in Google Calendar?
Yes, through the private iCal feed (one-way). Google Calendar may take several hours to refresh subscribed calendars.
Can I keep using Gmail to create tasks?
If you rely on that, keep Google Tasks for email follow-ups. You can also forward text to Pladay through its share target or bookmarklet.
