Looking for a Todoist alternative? An honest comparison
Last updated:
Todoist is one of the best-known to-do apps, with fast natural-language input and strong team features. Pladay overlaps with it on quick capture and repeats and differs in where your data lives and what is built in. Here are the facts, and when each one fits better.

When Todoist is the better choice
- You plan with other people: shared projects, assigning tasks and team workspaces are central to Todoist and outside Pladay's scope.
- You rely on a large ecosystem of integrations and automation services.
- You have years of history and a workflow built on its filters and labels that already works for you.
When Pladay may fit better
- You want to start without an account and keep personal data on your device by default (privacy).
- You want tasks, habits, a focus timer and life tracking (money, health, reading) in one app.
- You write tasks in Korean, Japanese, Thai or another of the 12 supported languages, or need Korean lunar-calendar dates (repeating tasks).
- You want ready-made plans such as a moving checklist that date every step for you.
How to move from Todoist to Pladay
- Open Pladay and sign in (the Todoist importer needs an account because it runs on Pladay's server).
- Go to Integrations → Import and choose Todoist. Paste your personal API token from Todoist's settings (Integrations → Developer).
- Check the preview: projects become lists, labels become tags, and due dates, priorities, subtasks and most repeat rules carry over; the preview counts any repeat it cannot map.
- Start the import. Running it again later skips tasks that were already imported.
- If the Todoist importer is not shown on your account, copy task titles from Todoist and paste them into Pladay's input: each line becomes a task, and dates written in the text are recognised.
Keep what works
Switching is a chance to drop what you never used. Many people move only active projects and leave the archive behind. Keep using the parts of your workflow that work — the inbox, a weekly review — and test Pladay for two weeks before deciding.
FAQ
Will my Todoist repeat rules work in Pladay?
Common rules (daily, weekly, monthly, every weekday, every N days) map directly, as do completion-based repeats. The import preview shows how many repeat rules could not be mapped so you can fix them by hand.
Can I use both apps during the switch?
Yes, but avoid keeping the same task in both for long. Import once, then add new tasks only in the app you are testing.
