Focus timer linked to your tasks
Last updated:
A timer turns “work on the report” into something you can start. Pladay's focus timer runs inside your planner, so each session is tied to a task and adds to your daily focus minutes.

How it works
- Choose the session length: 15, 25, 45 or 60 minutes.
- Pick the task you are working on (optional).
- Start. The remaining time also shows in the browser tab title, so you can see it from another tab.
- When the session ends you get a notification and a 5-minute break starts; the minutes are logged against the task.
Why short, fixed sessions work
Starting is often harder than continuing. A fixed session lowers the cost of starting (“only 25 minutes”), and the break stops you from burning out on a long stretch. The method is commonly known as the Pomodoro Technique; the exact length matters less than using the same length consistently so your sessions become comparable.
If 25 minutes feels too short for deep work, try 45 or 60; if starting is the problem, try 15.
See where your attention went
Today's focus minutes appear in the timer header and recent sessions are listed below. The stats view adds focus minutes for the last seven days next to completed tasks and your streak, so you can compare busy days with productive ones.
Plan the sessions, then run them
The focus plan picks the most important tasks that fit into the hours you have today, using your time estimates. Time blocks place them between your fixed commitments. Then the timer runs the blocks one by one. To sketch a session plan before opening the app, use the free Pomodoro planner.
Tips for better sessions
- Decide the task before the timer starts; choosing during the session eats into it.
- Write a one-line goal for the session (“draft the introduction”), not just the task name.
- Keep a scrap note for interruptions that pop into your head, and deal with them in the break.
- Silence notifications on the device you are working on, not only on your phone.
- Stop at the bell even mid-sentence once in a while; it makes the next session easier to start.
Pair it with a habit
“Two focus sessions before lunch” is an excellent first habit for students and knowledge workers. Track it with habit streaks and see the minutes add up.
FAQ
Can I change the break length?
The break is 5 minutes. The focus length can be 15, 25, 45 or 60 minutes.
Does the timer work offline or in the background?
It works offline. Keep the tab or app open; the notification at the end needs notification permission.
